International Symposium on Wind and Tidal Power

Dear Colleagues,

The International Symposium on Wind and Tidal Power-ISWTP 2017 is strongly motivated by the ever increasing concerns about the rapid depletion of conventional (fossil) fuel resources and the global climate change, the wind and tidal energy technological progress has been spectacular in the last thirty years.

The long term targets adopted by COP 21 in December 2015  in Paris call for a 100% emissions free power sector by 2050 at the latest; and given the lack of any serious competition from any other emissions free power sources, this means a power sector supplied largely by renewable energy, with wind, tidal and solar.

At the global scale over 60,000 MW of wind power are already installed and current estimates indicate that by 2030 wind energy could provide as much as 29% of world’s electricity needs. Other promising alternative energy resources is based on the tidal power because of its minimal environmental impact and high-energy density. The tidal turbines share a similar working principle with wind turbines and tidal cycles are predictable with a time-varying flow velocity, which is beneficial for controlling the electrical grid because generation can be accurately forecast a head of time.

ISWTP 2017 provides an excellent forum for exchanging information and discussion on a wide variety of wind and tidal power topics, representing the latest technological developments and future trends.  In order to provide an outstanding technical level for the presentations at the symposium, we have invited distinguished experts in the wind and tidal power to participate in the Technical Programme Committee. We will have several parallel sessions during 3 days of conference, including 5 invited guest speaker for plenary sessions, and also poster presentations.

I am pleased to welcome you with Bonjour Hi, to the first ISWTP conference in the wonderful city of Montreal the second largest French speaking city in the world, after Paris. Montreal has the highest number of restaurants per Capita in Canada and the second in North America after New York. Montreal’s restaurant scene is very cosmopolitan with menus from literally around the world, with an often added French touch.

I am looking forward to seeing you in Montreal. Québec, Canada at the First International Symposium on Wind and Tidal Power-ISWTP 2017.
